I started writing in journals as a girl to keep myself from going crazy and later as a mom with a vivid over-active imagination confined with nowhere to go except playdates and PTA meetings. After pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles, achieving my SAG eligibility, and working in the entertainment industry, I settled down, married my eternal companion, and become a stay-at-home mother. My over 40 years of theater experience and a lack of funds for a nanny, led me to start a theater company called GRIFFITH PLAYHOUSE that offered a Kinder Theater daycare program right out of my home. Over time, it grew into summer acting classes for school-aged kids. Until what it is today, a company that subcontracts with the City’s community centers where I provide after-school acting and theater classes.
As an acting teacher with no budget, I started writing short plays for my students to perform. And after a few years, I realized I had enough to publish a book. Whereas short children’s plays are hard to find publishers for, I self-published my own books and now offer two volumes of 10 MINUTE PLAYS FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES on Amazon, that are sold all over the world and have even been translated into Farsi. One of my plays, TRIP THROUGH TIME, is also featured in CJ Fallon's education publication, MASTER YOUR ENGLISH 6, published in January 2024.
To make a long story, longer, writing has taken over my life and I gladly let it happen. I started with a knack for poetry and plays, which led to everything from short stories and picture books to a mythology-based YA novel. I've been an active member of SCBWI since 2018 and currently volunteer as co-Assistant Region Advisor (co-ARA ) for my local SoCal Chapter. As co-ARA I run and participate in several critique groups a month and help organize events. I try to attend as many conferences, workshops, and writing retreats I can to improve my writing and marketing skills. Having had success with publishing my play books, I endeavored to self-publish a fairy tale novella called ROSE MAIDELAIDEN: THE UNOFFICIAL TALE OF HOW THE ROSE GOT ITS NAME. The second book ROSE MAIDELAIDEN: THE UNOFFICIAL TALE OF HOW THE LILY GOT ITS NAME was first published on Kindle Vella and came out in paperback, February 2024.
In 2004, Poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry awarded two of my poems, GUILTY OF LOVE and MOTHER, Editor’s Choice Awards. And to challenge myself and explore various genres, I participate in short story contests. I have two published short stories on www.shortfictionbreak.com called THE FARMHOUSE, and THE WAITING ROOM.
